What is an Endowment?
An endowment is, literally, a gift that keeps on giving. Endowment money is earmarked for a special purpose and set aside for that purpose--forever. The principal is invested, and the income from the investment generates funds that are used to support the earmarked goal. The principal is never touched and continues to generate income throughout the passing years.
Why “Kevin James Endowment Fund”
Kevin James is the only sitting board member of the Dallas Police Association to be killed in the line of duty. Kevin was on the DPA board when Assist the Officer Foundation was developed. Kevin’s tragic death is a constant reminder to us and to people we seek donations from of the dangers officers face everyday. Kevin was murdered November 25, 2001.
How will the Kevin James Endowment fund benefiting Assist the Officer Foundation work?
Assist the Officer Foundation announced the Kevin James Endowment Fund November 15, 2007. The Board of Directors of the Assist the Officer Foundation established an Endowment Fund committee to ensure the Endowment fund was promoted and the funds raised are expended as intended. The Kevin James Endowment Fund Committee is made up of Chairmen, Officer Kevin Janse, Lori James, Kevin James widow, John Wagler, Officer Andy Caceres, Officer Scott Sayers.

After being hurt in a motorcycle accident in August, the Assist the Officer Foundation was like a godsend. The initial assistance, along with additional help every month I've been out hurt, was more than I could have imagined. I'm forever grateful for the generosity.
